Criminal Defense
The attorneys at Rains, Lucia & Wilkinson have extensive experience representing clients in criminal matters. Our attorneys, including two former prosecutors, have successfully handled numerous complex criminal matters at trial and tried many cases to juries in both state and federal court. With a number of former police officers and prosecutors on our staff, we can effectively supervise and conduct investigations on behalf of our clients and in many cases we have been able to convince prosecutors to drop charges based on the results of our investigative efforts.

Based on our deep experience representing clients in the public sector, we have special expertise in both criminal and civil grand jury matters, representing numerous clients as witnesses, subjects, and targets before state and federal grand juries around the state.

As one of the leading law firms for peace officers in California, Rains, Lucia & Wilkinson has represented peace officers in local, state, and federal criminal investigations and prosecutions, focusing primarily on matters arising out of the performance of their duties. Mike Rains, for example, has defended peace officers in some of the most complex and controversial criminal trials in California history, including the successful defenses of the "Corcoran 8" and the "Oakland Riders.”

Firm attorneys regularly represent peace officer clients in relation to critical incidents and their aftermath, including allegations of federal or civil rights violations. We represent peace office clients at coroner’s inquests and grand juries, as well as in administrative investigations and disciplinary actions.
